The upgrade of the Baie-Comeau aluminum smelter harbour facilities comprises:

• Upgrade of Wharf 1 used for receiving bulk raw materials (alumina and petroleum coke) to make it fully operational. The work comprises installing new sheet piling *, fenders and modifying the pneumatic unloaders.

• Restoration of Wharfs 2 and 3 by installing new sheet piling.

Sheet piling is composed of profiled piles latched together to make a retaining wall.

At the same time, the Alcoa's Baie-Comeau aluminum smelter has committed to find a sustainable environmental solution for the rehabilitation of Anse du Moulin. The complete environmental process will begin by the end of summer 2011 and the rehabilitation work will be completed by 2015, once a solution has been adopted.
